According to Andreas von Poschinger, a geologist at the State Office for the Environment, several massive rocks weighing many tons fell on a house in Traunstein on Monday evening and killed some of the inhabitants. One of the rocks was particularly large, approaching the size of a bus, reports Die Tageszeitung.
The house was nearly completely buried under the rocks. As von Poschinger said on Tuesday, an estimated weight of the smaller chunks would approximate 250 tons.
The collapsed building was standing in a wooded area near some cliffs, right next door to the Schlossbrauerei Stein. Two other houses remained undamaged. The accident scene was cordoned off on Tuesday morning. Police in Traunstein report that in the accident a 45-year-old father and his 18-year-old daughter were killed. The 40-year-old wife of the man and her 16-year-old son were badly injured but survived.
